Innovative offers are being offered by several countries to attract tourists again. Uzbekistan, for instance, has announced a compensation of $ 3,000, which is equivalent to around Rs 2.26 lakh, to any traveller who contracts COVID-19 while in the country.
Authorities in Uzbekistan are confident that nobody can get infected in their territory and have introduced this offer under the 'Safe travel guaranteed' campaign. The amount of $ 3,000 was fixed as it is the treatment expense for COVID-19 in Uzbekistan.
An official order regarding the package was signed by President of the country Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently. According to Uzbekistan's tourism ambassador Sophie Ibbotson, the country is resolved to ensure the safety of visitors. "The new measures, which the president has promised to fund, would keep travellers safe from the pandemic," she added.
Even though Uzbekistan has offered compensation, travellers should follow certain restrictions.
Firstly, all travel in the country should be with a local tourist guide. Secondly, tourists should stay in hotels and visit spots which have been certified 'safe' by the local authorities. Thirdly, visitors from relatively safe countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Israel are being welcome now. Travellers from UK and Europe have to be in 14-day quarantine.
Uzbekistan, which has a population of over 33 million, registered only 7,228 COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths.
