Bahrain to Saudi by taxi; cross-border rides roll out on King Fahd Causeway

Traveling between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia has become significantly easier with the official launch of direct cross-border taxi services via the iconic King Fahd Causeway.

The landmark transport initiative is a collaborative effort between transport authorities of both GCC nations. It aims at streamlining travel, upgrading land transport networks, and boosting bilateral economic and tourism ties.

The new regulation is expected to benefit citizens, residents and international tourists alike. By providing a reliable and direct public transit option, authorities hope to encourage seamless travel between the two countries without the need for commuters to use their personal vehicles.

Strict quality and safety guidelines
To maintain high standards, only licensed taxis that meet stringent technical, safety, and quality regulations will be permitted to cross the King Fahd Causeway. Under the new framework, all operating taxi vehicles must be relatively modern, with a strict age limit of no more than five years.

Bahrain Land Transport and Postal Services Undersecretary Fatima Abdullah Al Daen said the initiative would not only ease traffic congestion along the busy causeway but also offer a safer, more flexible travel alternative for commuters.

A boost for trade and tourism
The business community has also warmly welcomed the move. Nabeel Khalid Kanoo, Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, remarked that the cross-border taxi service would provide a major boost to key sectors, including retail, trade, tourism, and the exhibitions industry. He added that the service was a major relief for travellers seeking convenient, direct transit options across the border.
