Hungarian capital Budapest will host the World Tourism Day this year. The alluring twin city, on the banks of Danube, has been chosen this year by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), specialised agency of the United Nations, for the international celebration.
"The WTD official celebration will be held in Budapest, Hungary, a country enjoying steady growth of tourism backed by consistent policy support and a commitment to the digital future. Other celebrations will take place worldwide," read a press release by UNWTO.
The event will be staged on September 27.
The theme this year is 'Tourism and digital transformation.' The importance of digital technology in tourism and its role in achieving modernity will be discussed, apart from its place in moulding the future of tourism.
This year's World Tourism Day (WTD) will help to put the opportunities provided to tourism, by technological advances including big data, artificial intelligence and digital platforms, on the map of sustainable development.
