Couple revamps truck to include dog on world tour

Kumarakom: Matthais and Johanna wanted to travel around the world with Bruno. But when airlines clipped their wings, a truck was revamped to make their dream come true.

Electronic engineer Johanna and entrepreneur in electronic goods Matthais invested everything in the truck and travel last August and set out to see the world along with their pet dog Bruno. The German couple, who started from Europe, crossed Turkey-Iran-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Kyrgystan-Kazakhstan-Siberia-Mongolia-China-Tibet-Nepal to enter India. They are currently at Paradise Resorts at Kumarakom.

They will leave for Goa and Rajasthan soon to get back to Europe through Pakistan-Iran. Friend Michel Kootunkal from Pala had introduced them to Kerala through its cuisine and the couple became fans of spicy food.

Travel through China was most arduous. Friends on social media helped them in several countries. The couple is blogging travel experience too.

Flying truck

The couple bought an Italian built Iveco Astra HD8 truck and converted it into a caravan. It’s complete with a shower, kitchen, bedroom and a battery-operated car for short trips. Solar panel on top of truck provides power. Delhi and Varanasi were covered before coming to Kerala in a rented car after securely parking the truck. The travel alone requires 30,000 Euros (Rs 25 lakh approximately).
