The six-lane 213-km Delhi - Dehradun Expressway, which was officially opened last month, is expected to become fully functional soon. It is expected to reduce travel time between the places from 6.5 to 2.5 hours. A 3.5 km stretch of the way was recently opened. The expressway begins near Akshardham at the Delhi - Mumbai Expressway, and its first 18 km, from Akshardham to Loni, will be toll-free. It also has Asia's longest wildlife corridor, passing through the Rajaji National Park and Shivalik Reserve Forest. Every 30 miles, there will be modern rest area facilities. The expressway also features four major bridges, 16 exit and entry points, five rail overbridges and 110 underpasses. Its maximum speed limit is 100 km/h.
These tourists will benefit...
For those travelling from Delhi, it will be easier to access Dehradun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar as they would be just about 2.5 hours away once the expressway is fully functional:
1) Tourists can explore spots like the Robber's Cace, Forest Research Institute and the Mindrollling monastery, alongside checking out the natural springs at Sahastradhara and cafes at Dehradun's Rajpur road.
2) At about 3.5 hours, they can reach Mussoorie from Delhi, hike to Kempty Falls and Lal Tibba and enjoy zip-lining and rock climbing here. For those spiritually inclined, Haridwar would be just about 4 km away.
3) Experts say that Hajj pilgrims in the region also won't have to worry anymore about missing flights as the route ensures quicker connectivity.
4) The Jim Corbett National Park, Tehri Lake and Tiger Falls can also be easily accessed.
