The first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and the final phase of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 will be launched today. PM Modi will inaugurate NMIA by 3.30 pm, after taking a walk through the newly built airport. The PM will also launch 'Mumbai One,' an integrated mobility app that combines 11 public transport operators. It's India's first app of the kind.
Navi Mumbai International Airport
NMIA, the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, is India's largest greenfield airport project. Phase 1 has been built for Rs 19,650 crore, the release said. It was developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Once it starts operations and works in tandem with the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), it's expected to ease congestion in the area.
Mumbai Metro Line-3
Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line 3, built at a cost of Rs 12,200 crore, extends from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade. It is Mumbai's first fully underground metro corridor, measuring 10.99 km in length. It will add 11 underground stations to Metro Line-3. In this phase, the Aqua Line of the Metro is integrated with the Central Railway at Mumbai's CSMT station and with the Western Railway at Mumbai's Central and Churchgate stations. It will also help Mumbaikers access the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Reserve Bank of India more easily, alongside improved connectivity to Nariman Point, Fort, and Kalabadevi.
Mumbai One app
The app offers integrated mobile ticketing across various public transport operators. It will incorporate 11 operators, including suburban railways, monorail, metro and bus services. Commuters can plan trips, buy tickets, switch between different modes of transport easily and check real-time schedules, which will in turn reduce time wastage. It will support digital payments and integrated mobile ticketing. It also eliminates queues to a large extent. It also has an in-built SOS feature to enhance safety during emergencies. It is available on the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
These are the operators included in the app:
1. Mumbai Metro Line 2A & 7
2. Mumbai Metro Line 3
3. Mumbai Metro Line 1
4. Mumbai Monorail
5. Navi Mumbai Metro
6. Mumbai Suburban Railway
