PM Narendra Modi flagged off the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro services from UP's Shatabdi Nagar station today. While the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) service had already begun in parts between Delhi and Meerut over a year ago, in stretches like Sahibabad, Duhai, and Ashok Nagar, the rest of the corridor was fully flagged off today. After the inauguration, Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath left by metro for Meerut South Station. The 82-km-long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor hopes to set a new example for integrated urban and regional transportation.

Travel time, facilities
The new corridor is expected to reduce the number of private vehicles on the roads and make a safe commute easy for the common man. The RRTS lets commuters travel from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Shatabdi Nagar in UP in 50 minutes, Begumpul in 54 minutes, and Modipuram in 58 minutes. To travel to all these routes by road takes at least 1.5 hours, and the time can vary depending on traffic conditions. The Namo Bharat trains also feature premium coaches, CCTV surveillance, 2*2 seating, fire safety systems, mobile charging points, and advanced door-opening technology.

Meerut Metro
The inauguration of the Meerut Metro, which will be among the fastest metro services in India, will open the stretch from Meerut South Namo Bharat Station to Modipuram Namo Bharat Station. The metro, which operates at 120 km/h, cuts travel time between Meerut South and Modipuram by around 30 minutes. The Modipuram Depot will become fully operational only after the ongoing construction works. The 23.60 km metro line has 13 stations. Meanwhile, the 3-coach metro trains have 175 seats, allowing around 700 passengers to travel at a time.
