The new Bengaluru-Mumbai-Bengaluru Express (SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express) was flagged off by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday, virtually. The train (No.16553/16554) will cover a total of 1,210 km between Bengaluru and Mumbai in 24 hours and 5 minutes. The train's operations from Bengaluru will begin on May 23 and from Mumbai on May 24. The South Western Railway (SWR) said the new service marks a major step in strengthening connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The new train is a bi-weekly service. It will have 15 stations: Tumakuru, Davangere, SSS Hubballi, Dharwar, Belagavi, Miraj, Sangli, Karad, Satara, Lonand, Pune, Lonavala, Karjat, Kalyan, and Thane.

The train's coaches
The SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express will have a total of 17 LHB coaches. It will have one AC 2-tier coach, four AC 3-tier coaches, four general second-class coaches, six sleeper class coaches, one second-class luggage-cum-brake van with a differently-abled-friendly compartment, and one luggage-cum-generator car-cum-brake van.

Ticket fares
The train's fares are Rs 750 for sleeper class, Rs 1,880 for AC 3 Tier, and Rs 2,575 for AC 2 Tier.

Train timings
The SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express will leave from Bengaluru at 8.35 pm on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and reach Mumbai at 8.40 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays. In the return direction, the train will leave from Mumbai at 11.15 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays and arrive at Bengaluru at 10.30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
