Kerala's 'Priyadarshini project,' which guarantees free bus travel for women and transgender persons on the KSRTC ordinary buses, will be inaugurated on Monday (June 15). The state-level inauguration of the project by Chief Minister VD Satheeshan will be held at 8.30 am on Monday at the KSRTC bus terminal in Thampanoor. Elected representatives will lead the inaugurations and other scheme-related programs at various bus depots across the state by 9 am. In Kottayam, the inauguration will be held at the district KSRTC depot at 8.30 am by Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. The first free bus will ply from Kottayam to Cherthala via Kumarakom.
'Zero ticket'
Women and transgender persons will be issued a 'zero ticket' by the bus conductor. They don't have to show any ID cards or other documents. 3125 ordinary buses have been arranged at various depots for these services. The boarding place and destination would be marked on the tickets.
How to recognise free buses
A sticker, announcing the Priyadarshini Project,' will be displayed on the two doors and the glass in front of the buses. If at all this sticker is absent, women can avail the free ride on the following buses:

b) City Ordinary
c) Limited Stop Ordinary
d) Point to Point
e) Gramavandi
f) Town to Town
Free ride for men
As a protest against KSRTC's move to offer free rides to women, a private bus owner in Kochi is all set to offer free rides to men on June 15. The men travelling on the Little Flower bus from Manjali to Aluva will not have to pay for their tickets between 6.30 am and 8 am. All seven trips will be free, as per reports.
