KSRTC currently offers free travel for women on 'Ordinary' buses, with plans to expand this after 100 days.

On June 15, the KSRTC rolled out the free travel for women scheme on various 'Ordinary' buses. While it is currently limited to seven bus types, it is expected to be extended to other bus types after around 100 days. Meanwhile, here's everything you need to know about the various concessions available on KSRTC buses that can benefit you.

Travel concessions
Visually impaired individuals can travel for free. Free travel will be provided on city, ordinary, city fast, and fast passenger buses within a certain distance from their residence. Individuals with complete physical or mental disabilities will receive a free travel pass upon presentation of a medical board certificate. Other differently-abled individuals with limitations of more than 40% are eligible for discounts ranging from 50% to 70% on regular ticket fares. They will receive benefits on city, ordinary, city fast, and fast passenger buses.

The government also issues free travel passes to freedom fighters and their spouses. Former members of the legislative assembly have special concession passes. Free passes are also available to visually impaired students and other severely differently-abled students studying in recognised schools and colleges to meet their educational needs. Accredited journalists can receive special travel concessions. Last year, 1.3 lakh students in the district received travel concessions, of which 72,000 were girls.

More benefits for girl students
With free travel for women on KSRTC buses, there will also be changes to student travel concessions. Girls can travel on KSRTC without a concession card. Students are eligible for concessions on ordinary buses. With free travel also available on ordinary buses, there is no need for a separate card.
