The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has introduced a new daily bus service connecting Theni railway station with Munnar. Scheduled to depart from Theni at 8.05 am daily, this new transit route aims to offer a hassle-free and affordable travel option for commuters and tourists visiting the popular hill station from various parts of Tamil Nadu.
Affordable travel for holidaymakers
With Munnar witnessing a steady increase in tourist footfall from neighbouring districts, local transport authorities initiated this route to streamline regional connectivity. Previously, travellers arriving by train had to rely on private cabs to cover the final leg of their journey, which often proved costly. This new direct bus route offers a highly economical alternative, with tickets priced at just ₹130.
Connecting rail and road networks
The launch of this bus service is strategically timed to benefit train passengers. In addition to regular rail services from Chennai to Bodinayakanur, a weekly special train operates from Tambaram to Bodinayakanur via Villupuram, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, and Trichy. Arriving passengers can now transition seamlessly from the train to the state transport bus at Theni, avoiding expensive taxi negotiations and reaching Munnar comfortably.
