BMW GT: Affordable luxury

Gran Turismo is an Italian word which means Grand Tourer. It is effectively a vehicle which blends high performance with modern styling and luxury. Sometimes it comes with two door coupe styling or even in four door coupe styling. The main concept of a Grand Tourer vehicle is that to travel long distance in luxury and in style.

BMW 3 series GT is comparatively a new car from BMW’s stable. It had attracted a lot of attention ever since the concept car was unveiled in 2013. GT is placed in segment which is higher than the BMW 3 series and it is often bracketed with X5 series or even with 5 series.

Overview

There isn’t much of a difference between BMW 5 series and BMW 3 series GT as the lengths are almost the same. The F34 platform of GT is slightly longer than the one you will find in ordinary 3 series and it is the reason for the bigger size. The GT is 110mm longer than 3 series and for that reason there in more space in the interiors of the car. The rear of the car looks similar to that of X6. The frameless doors are unique. Hatch doors which you will find in Skoda cars gives GT a nickname – 5 series hatch back.

Interiors

At a glance GT looks similar to X5. The interiors in GT are designed similarly to that of X5. The space inside the cabin is almost the same. However, GT doesn’t have provision for four wheel drive. But in terms of performance GT matches X5.

Engine

For quite some time, BMW has been concentrating on four cylinder engine. As a prelude to fit four cylinder engines in 7 series cars, BMW has provided a 184 bhp four cylinder engine in GT. It clocks 100km in just 7.9 seconds.

Luxury and comfort

GT offers luxury and comfort like any car from BMW stable. There is enough leg room and it is similar to one you will find in BMW 5 series. But driving experience is sportier in GT. Eighteen inch alloy wheels and beautifully designed rear gives GT a different look. The panoramic sunroof is another speciality in GT.
