New Delhi: Ernakulam from Kerala has found a place among the 91 railway stations that are going to get a facelift soon.
Union railway minister Piyush Goyal informed union tourism minister Alphons Kannanthanam regarding this. The other stations that had been chosen from Kerala for a facelift included Kottayam, Kozhikode and Palakkad. These stations will be developed as world-class railway facilities.
Chengannur too has been included on the list as it is the railway station nearest to Sabarimala. Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore will be spent on the development of the 91 stations.
The agencies tasked with the development work include the zonal railway, National Buildings Construction Corporation, Indian Railways Construction Company and Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation.
While the zonal railway will handle the works at Kozhikode, Kottayam, Chengannur and Palakkad stations, National Buildings Construction Corporation will carry out the development of Ernakulam station.
There are three stations from Karnataka and four from Tamil Nadu in the list. The railway station from Karnataka include Yeshwantpur, Mysuru and Dharwad and those from Tamil Nadu include Madhurai, Chennai-Egmore and Tiruchirappalli and Salem.
