Shwetha Menon, Jagadish submit nominations for president's post in AMMA

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is preparing for elections scheduled for August 15. The final phase of the nomination process is currently underway and will conclude on Thursday evening with the review of the nomination papers.

Reports indicate that Shwetha Menon and Jagadish are running for the position of president, while Raveendran and Baburaj are contesting for the vice-president role. Additionally, sources reveal that multiple candidates are vying for key positions in the general body, unlike last time, when actors Mohanlal and Unni Mukundan were nominated unopposed to the post of President and Treasurer.

This year, four seats will be reserved for women on the executive committee, similar to last year. However, we have ensured clearer communication regarding women's representation and reservation in the committee. Last year, actor Pisharody received enough votes to join the executive committee but was not included due to a by-law stating that four seats must be reserved for women. This rule was not communicated effectively to the members at the time, resulting in unnecessary distress for eligible candidates like Pisharody," stated Jayan Cherthala, vice-president of the ad hoc committee.

Additionally, actors Jayan Cherthala, Ansiba, Sarayu, Na Kurup, Lakshmi Priya, Anjali Nair, Kailas, Nandu Poduval, and Asha Baby have submitted nominations for various positions.
