Lissy, daughter of Varkey or not?

It's not the first time a court has ordered a DNA test to settle a maintenance row. But when actress Lissy was served with a notice to conduct a DNA test on her, based on a petition filed by her 'alleged father', M.D. Varkey, we sure laid it on a bit thick.

Here, Onmanorama dons the hat of a private detective to give you some insight into the case.

The actress has been washing dirty linen in public for quite sometime now as the case first came to the fore four years back. In October 2012, the Ernakulam magistrate ordered Lissy to provide maintenance for her 'poor' father. However, Lissy contended it, saying she doesn’t know the person who claimed to be her father.

According to sources, Varkey, a native of Muvattupuzha, was working as an advocate clerk. He parted ways with Lissy's mother and later, remarried when the actor was still a kid.

A few years back, Varkey was severely injured after falling from the stairs at his residence. Holding on to a walking stick and overcoming his disability, Varkey soon began working as a security personnel before venturing into poultry business.

Sources close to Varkey suggest that a private financing company gave him a loan to run poultry business. But in no time, mounting debts and bank loans forced him to the doorstep of his daughter.

“I have helped Lissy during her school days at Pazhanganad lower primary school and St. Antony’s School at Kacheripady. But I could not fulfil all her needs, especially when Lissy was doing her pre-degree course. My earnings were low and I had to struggle a lot, especially after I fell from the stair in 2004. Over the course of time, Lissy’s lifestyle had changed. As she became a movie star, I never could meet her requirements," Varkey says.

Currently, Varkey is staying with his brother in Panayikulam.
