The film, directed by Amal Neerad and starring Kunchacko Boban and Jyothirmayi, saw Shyam's soulful compositions become a key highlight. 'Bougainvillea' also had a strong showing at the state awards, winning a total of seven accolades. The musician, who previously won the state award for his work in 'Kumbalangi Nights,’ took home the award for Best Composer for the songs ‘Maravikale Parayu’ and 'Bhoolokam Srishticha Karthavinu Sthuthi' in 'Bougainvillea.'
While Shyam was delighted with the recognition, he revealed that he would have been happier to receive the award for his work on 'Manjummel Boys,' a film he described as being particularly dear to him. Shyam shared, “It would have brought me immense joy had I won the award for Manjummel Boys, as I invested so much into the music for that film. I'm quite sad about that but I’m genuinely happy that Manjummel Boys also received its due at the State Awards."
The composer went on to explain why the film holds such a special place in his heart: “Manjummel Boys was a project I was involved in from the very beginning. It’s a gem of a story, and I believe that's why the award would have felt even more special had it been for that film.”
Interestingly, 'Bougainvillea' was Sushin's final project before taking a brief break from his musical career. He got married last year and has expressed plans to return to Kerala soon to embark on a few major projects next year, including Mammootty and Mohanlal’s big-budget film ‘Patriot’.
