Jisha’s mother to move in to new house on Saturday. Can she move on?

Kuruppampady, Kochi: Rajeswari has waited for this day for long. However, she has little reasons to rejoice when she receives the key to her dream home from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday.

She has named the house ‘Jisha Bhavanam’, in memory of the daughter who was murdered and mutilated in their former ramshackle house on April 28. The house was just beginning to rise from the foundation when the law student met with a horrible end in their unprotected house near a canal at Vattolippadi.

The state government took up the construction work after Jisha’s murder hit the deadlines. The earlier foundation was found to be weak and discarded. The Left Democratic Front government had promised to complete the construction within 45 days of coming to power.

The Nirmiti Kendra built the 620-square-foot house at Mudakkuzha within 44 days. The house has two bedrooms.

The panchayat had allotted five cents of land for the dalit family to build a house. The local body had also released Rs 3 lakh for the house. The cost of construction, however, has run up to Rs 11.50 lakh. Some of the material were donated by well wishers.

Raeswari and elder daugher Deepa are now put up in the Taluk Hospital.

Innocent MP, Eldhose Kunnappally MLA and Ernakulam district collector M G Rajamanickam will also participate in the function organised as part of the house handover.
