LDF gains politically: setback for IUML, BJP

The IUML's victory margin has dipped by over 15,000 votes to just over 23,000 votes, which is a clear erosion in its vote bank.

The Indian Union Muslim League can claim a technical victory in the Vengara assembly by-poll, but it is indeed a political setback for the opposition and a major gain for the ruling Left Democratic Front in Kerala.

That the ruling LDF can claim a moral victory is evident from the fact that it has managed to make a sharp dent in the victory margin of the UDF candidate in a constituency considered a bastion of the IUML.

The IUML's victory margin has dipped by over 15,000 votes to just over 23,000 votes, which is a clear erosion in its vote bank.

There is no solace NDA either with its votes actually dipping from 7,055 in 2016 to 5,728. It was also relegated to the fourth slot by the SDPI.
