Colonial outside, modern and contemporary inside, was what owner Ashraf wanted and the designer fulfilled. The 4000 sq ft house on 25 cents of land in Koottilangadi in Malappuram is therefore, distinct in style. It has symmetry and emits an old world charm.
Redolent of the colonial design, the elevation sports flat roofs. The exterior is themed in white. Since the land was in different levels, the construction had to be done to suit the basic nature of the earth. The split levels therefore helped the house have a basement floor which doubles up as a storage area.
The main hall is in semi open style. The living area has been arranged on either side of the main door. An L-shaped seater is the main feature here. It’s a chic piece of design that jives up the room. As the owner runs a business in China, almost all the pieces of furniture have been brought down from dragon-land. A pillar partition in ply wood and glass separates the drawing section from the dining. It’s mostly vitrified tiles and marble on the floors. A white-counter dining table can seat eight.
The house enjoys four bedrooms with wardrobes and attached bathrooms. A lot of importance has been given to storage. The master bedroom looks regal and the kids bedroom sport an apt nursery decor.
The kitchen has been done up in multiwood spray paint finish and looks every bit sophisticated. Instead of the usual breakfast area, the pace enjoys a sitting nook.
The design lights on the wall outside brighten up the place and heighten the effect of the structure. It’s truly colonial and imposing.
