A 48-year-old woman has suffered severe osteoporosis, possibly due to a lack of sun exposure for fear of tanning. Now, she suffers excruciating pain in her body when she sits or lies down. The Chinese woman has reportedly been wearing body suits since a young age, so no inch of skin is exposed to sunlight. She also regularly used sunscreen as she was scared of getting tanned. This caused a depletion of natural vitamins in her body. Gradually, her bones became weaker, and she began experiencing pain. Meanwhile, the South China Morning Post reports that her ribs broke while trying to turn over in bed.
Dr Long Shu of the Zindu Hospital in China revealed the rare case to the world. The doctors found out that the woman had been evading sunlight since childhood. Her family rushed her to the hospital after she fell down and broke bones. Severe osteoporosis was diagnosed in the tests that were conducted at the hospital.
Meanwhile, doctors say that evading sunlight has become a trend in China. Women wear gloves and outfits that protect them from ultraviolet rays. Experts say it isn’t good to avoid sunlight exposure altogether. Vitamin D is essential for bone health and also for calcium absorption. Sunlight is the most amazing source of vitamin D. Those who avoid sunlight exposure might suffer from weakened bones and low immunity.
Human bones grow and gather energy every ten years until a person turns 30. However, bone density begins to reduce after the age of 30. Doctors say that it reduces by half to one per cent every year. Calcium deficiency, not getting enough sun exposure, vitamin D deficiency, lack of exercise, smoking, and alcohol addiction will ruin bone health and lead to severe diseases.
