Actor-host Rajesh Keshav, a familiar face at premier events in the South Indian film industry, has been admitted to a prominent private hospital in Kochi in a critical condition. According to hospital sources, he suffered from a stroke around three days ago. "He had a stroke, apparently, while at an event featuring Dulquer Salmaan at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Kochi. Currently, his condition is serious," as per the source.

According to Rajesh's friend and programme director Prathap Jayalekshmi, who revealed his health update on Facebook, the actor was hospitalised within 20 minutes of him collapsing during the event. "However, the doctors said he had a cardiac arrest right when he collapsed. An angioplasty was done after that, and ever since, he has been on a ventilator. He hasn't responded after that, except for minor movements. Doctors fear that the condition has affected his brain as well," Prathap said in the post.

What is stroke?
A stroke is a condition in which the blood supply to a part of an individual's brain is reduced or blocked, resulting in the brain not receiving enough nutrients and oxygen. It is often a sudden event, and its recovery isn't easy, says the Cleveland Clinic. There are four types of stroke: Ischaemic, haemorrhagic, transient ischaemic attack or mini stroke and cryptogenic stroke. More than 85% of strokes are ischaemic strokes. According to the Mayo Clinic, within minutes, brain cells begin to die when someone suffers from such a condition. In Rajesh's case, the hospital hasn't revealed the kind of stroke that has affected him yet.
