The reason why people give so much of importance to wedding videos and photos is because they freeze in frames the moments of an event of a lifetime, which can be brought alive any time later.
However, a wedding photo shoot now a days, more than documenting the ceremony, is pursued as an extensive process involving artistic brilliance and aesthetic sense almost on the lines of a film project. It is in this context, the viral photos of Bichu Prathapan and Indu Bichu, hailing from Cherthala, stand out.
The photo session lasted eight hours and the couple spent the entire time getting drenched in the the rain. The photography team under Shine Sidharth comprised five people.
The couple posed in a large copper vessel in a pond under the rain, which was created artificially with pipes.
Bichu and Indu, both IT employees, wanted something entirely different as part of their wedding. “Such an occasion takes place only once in a lifetime. So we decided to create a unique shoot that people would discuss for a long time,” says Indu.
Shine explains how the photo session was arranged. “The pond was behind Bichu’s house. Ensuring that the copper vessel did not move and that the lighting was proper were big challenges. The expression of the couple had to be captured in the camera as the artificial rain drenched them,” he says.
“It was like shooting a short film,” adds Shine.
The water lilies and leaves in the pond provided a dreamy background to the visuals. But they too were hardly real. “The flowers and the leaves were arranged in the pond as part of the shoot. Bichu and Indu were really enthusiastic about the affair and their involvement was total,” says Shine.
