Now Kerala artist's painting on compassionate Mizo boy creates flutter

The artist has exacted the innocence of the boy who is shown as standing on a globe in the painting (R).

A six-year-old boy from Mizoram, Derek C Lalchhanhima, was recently in the news for his compassionate act of bringing a chicken to a hospital for treatment. The gesture of benevolence, which had spread on the internet like wildfire, has been recreated on canvas by an artist from Kerala, Sunil Pookode and posted on Facebook.

The artist has portrayed the innocence of the boy, who is shown as standing on a globe. The image with a caption in Malayalam which roughly reads - Derek, you are great (Nee Valiyavanaada Derek), has since gone viral.

The viral photo of Derek from the hospital is said to have been clicked while he was holding out the 10-rupee note to a hospital staff demanding treatment for the chicken he accidentally hit with his bicycle. The photograph became viral with more than 50,000 people sharing it on social media.

There has been a barrage of comments on social media lauding the boy as the symbol of humanity and compassion.

Some even commented that the world would have been a better place had adults possessed the generosity and humility the six-year-old child displayed.

Taking note of his generous act, the boy has also been awarded a ‘Word of Appreciation’ certificate by the school where he studies.
