Girls' bid to save sick man goes in vain
The girls, all third-year Philosophy students of N.S.S. College, noticed ramaswamy collapsing and approached him.

Aryanad (Thiruvananthapuram): Timely help may often save lives, though a few may not be lucky to survive even if attended to without delay. Four girls took the lead to shift a man, who had collapsed of chest pain, to a hospital from Neeramankara here, but their effort failed as the patient, identified as Ramaswamy, breathed his last on the hospital bed.

But for the girls, P S Jyotsana, J S Deepika, S S Shruti and M Sreelakshmi, Ramaswamy would have died at the bus shelter by the road at Neeramankara, where he had collapsed.

The girls, all third-year Philosophy students of N.S.S. College, noticed the man collapsing and approached him. On learning that he was suffering from chest pain, they offered him water brought from a nearby bakery and soon flagged down a passing ambulance and took him to the government hospital at Shantivila.

A few men nearby only watched the developments.

Meanwhile, the rescuers had gathered information from Ramaswamy, and informed his relatives using the number saved on his mobile phone.

Ramaswamy, however, died a few minutes after reaching the hospital.
