TRAI now requires telecom firms to prominently display mandated recharge plans as 'TRAI-Mandated Packs' on websites, apps, and shops, making them easily accessible within 30 days.

Telecom companies will no longer be able to make recharge plans mandated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) difficult to find, with the regulator directing them to list such plans under a separate category.

The category, titled ‘TRAI-Mandated Packs’, must be displayed as the first tab under the prepaid recharge section, TRAI said. Telecom companies have been given 30 days to comply with the directive.

The mandated plans must be displayed on the companies’ websites and mobile apps, as well as at recharge shops.

Under existing TRAI directions, telecom operators are required to offer recharge plans with a 30-day validity and plans that can be renewed on the same date every month. They are also required to provide separate tariff vouchers offering only voice and SMS services.

TRAI said it had received complaints that these mandated plans were not easy to locate on telecom companies’ websites and apps.
The latest directive is aimed at making such plans more accessible to prepaid users.
