India’s premium car market is gearing up for a new wave of luxury EVs, hybrids and SUVs as Denza and JSW Motors prepare multiple high-end launches.
India’s premium car market is set for a fresh wave of launches, with BYD-owned Denza and the JSW Group’s JSW Motors preparing to introduce a range of luxury vehicles, electric SUVs and hybrids. The upcoming models will bring a mix of high-end comfort, performance-oriented electric powertrains and rugged SUV styling to Indian buyers.
Denza is preparing to enter the market with its luxury D9 MPV and high-performance Z9 GT, while JSW Motors is lining up several SUVs, including a plug-in hybrid, an electric SUV and the iCar V23 EV. Here is a look at the key models expected to arrive in India.
Denza D9: Luxury on wheels
Denza is expected to launch its luxury D9 MPV in India by mid-November. The company has confirmed the model’s arrival through its official social media channels.
The D9 features a large chrome-finished front grille, split LED headlamps, sliding rear doors and connected LED tail lamps. The seven-seater is designed to prioritise passenger comfort, particularly for those travelling in the second row, which gets captain seats with power adjustment, ventilation, heating and massage functions.
The feature list includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, three-zone climate control and a 14-speaker Dynaudio sound system.
International versions are offered with a 103kWh battery and front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. However, Denza has yet to officially disclose the powertrain specifications of the India-bound model.
The D9 is expected to be priced between ₹80 lakh and ₹85 lakh (ex-showroom).
Denza Z9 GT: Performance meets technology
Denza’s performance-focused Z9 GT is expected to reach India by the end of the year. The premium model combines a sporty design with a powerful electric powertrain and advanced technology.
The car is expected to be imported as a fully built unit, with an estimated ex-showroom price of ₹1.2 crore to ₹1.5 crore.
The international-spec Z9 GT features a three-motor electric powertrain producing an impressive 1,156bhp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 2.7 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 270kph.
A 122.5kWh battery pack in the international model offers a claimed range of around 600km.
The Z9 GT also features rear-wheel steering and a crab-walk function, which are designed to improve manoeuvrability in tight spaces. Other highlights include premium leather upholstery, multiple display screens, heated and ventilated seats, massage functions and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
JSW Compact: A plug-in hybrid SUV
JSW Motors is set to launch the JSW Compact PHEV on December 4. Based on the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid, the SUV will be assembled at the company’s plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The model is expected to carry an ex-showroom price tag of ₹40 lakh to ₹50 lakh.
The SUV features a boxy design, a muscular bumper, chunky wheel arches, 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and vertically oriented tail lamps, giving it a rugged, off-road-inspired appearance.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an 18.4kWh battery and two electric motors. The plug-in hybrid powertrain produces a combined 360bhp and 610Nm of torque.
The vehicle can travel up to 90km on electric power alone, while its claimed combined range in hybrid mode is around 1,100km.
Inside, the SUV gets a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, power-adjustable front seats, a 540-degree camera system and Level 2 ADAS.
With its rugged styling and plug-in hybrid powertrain, the JSW Compact is expected to compete with established premium SUVs, including the Toyota Fortuner, although the two models differ in their powertrain configurations.
JSW J5 EV: Electric SUV planned for 2027
Currently undergoing testing, the JSW J5 EV is expected to enter the Indian market in 2027. The company has yet to announce the model’s final name, pricing or India-specific powertrain specifications.
The upcoming vehicle is expected to resemble the international-spec JSW J5 EV and compete in the mid-size electric SUV segment.
The international model produces 211bhp and 288Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which offers a claimed range of 402km.
The electric SUV also supports DC fast charging at up to 130kW. Specifications and features could differ in the Indian version.
JSW J5 Hybrid: Petrol-electric power
Alongside the electric version, JSW Motors is expected to introduce a hybrid version of the Jaecoo J5 in India, potentially by the end of this year or early next year.
The international-spec J5 Hybrid combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.83kWh battery. The system delivers a combined output of 224bhp and 294Nm of torque.
The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 7.9 seconds, while the company claims a fuel efficiency of 18.9kpl.
Features include a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and wireless charging.
The J5 Hybrid will add another electrified option to JSW Motors’ planned Indian portfolio, catering to buyers seeking improved efficiency without relying entirely on external charging.
iCar V23 EV: Rugged looks, electric power
The iCar V23 EV is another model expected to enter India next year under JSW Motors’ plans. Its boxy proportions and rugged styling are among its key attractions.
The electric SUV features round LED headlamps, a muscular bumper and a panoramic sunroof. Inside, it gets a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and physical rotary controls.
International versions are available with 59.93kWh and 81.76kWh battery packs, offering claimed ranges of around 360km to 430km. Rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations are also available in overseas markets, though the specifications of the Indian version are yet to be confirmed.
The iCar V23 is expected to carry an ex-showroom price of around Rs 20 lakh, positioning it as a potential option for buyers seeking an electric SUV with distinctive styling.
A new phase for India’s premium car market
With the D9 and Z9 GT, Denza is targeting buyers seeking luxury, technology and performance. JSW Motors, meanwhile, is preparing a broader line-up spanning plug-in hybrids, conventional hybrids and battery-electric SUVs.
The success of these models will depend on pricing, localisation, charging infrastructure and after-sales support. However, their arrival could give Indian buyers more choices as the market gradually expands beyond conventional petrol and diesel vehicles towards electrified mobility.
