Kottayam: Domestic rubber prices have crossed the ₹300-per-kg mark for the first time in history, with the Rubber Board's price for RSS 4 grade touching an all-time high of Rs 300 in the Kottayam and Kochi markets on Monday.

The price of RSS 4 in the international market, however, stands at ₹266.69 per kg, significantly lower than the domestic rate.

Although transactions in the open market had taken place at ₹300 per kg last week, the Rubber Board's official price reached the milestone only on Monday.

The record surge has been driven by a shortage of rubber in the domestic market amid strong demand. A shift in farmers' preference towards selling latex (raw rubber) instead of processing it into sheets has also contributed to the rise in sheet rubber prices.
