Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is moving heaven and earth to woo voters in West Bengal.

Party managers are chalking out plans to rope in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah to address a string of public meetings in the state.

At a closed door meeting with the party’s candidates and district presidents, BJP observers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Arvind Menon informed that Modi and Shah will address as many as 22 mass meetings ahead of the last phase of polling on May 19.

The aim to win as many seats from West Bengal, which elects 42 lawmakers to the Lok Sabha, the third highest contingent after Uttar Pradesh (80) and Maharashtra (48).

Modi and Shah have so far held 26 rallies in the state after the election was announced on March 10.

Modi addressed 12 rallies in his nine visits to the state while Shah spoke at 14 rallies in five visits.

Political rivals also admit that the rallies addressed by Modi and Shah are attracting huge crowds, thereby boosting the morale of the BJP cadres.

BJP president Amit Shah has set an ambitious target to win 23 seats from the state. That is why the state unit is going all out with a high voltage campaign involving a host of leaders.

The discomfort in Trinamool camp is evident. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not forget to point out in every meeting that the BJP is pouring crores for the public meetings.

The Prime Minister addressed rallies in at Bankura and Purulia on Thursday.
