Patna: Three members of a family were killed and one was injured after being struck by a Vande Bharat Express train near Pandarak railway station in Patna district’s Barh sub-division on Friday.
IANS reported that the accident occurred around 5 pm in Mekra Mamrakha village. The family, residents of Tadapar village under Harnaut police station in Nalanda district, met with the accident while heading to attend a Tilak ceremony.
The deceased are Jitu Manjhi (24), Nago Manjhi (25), and Reetlal Manjhi (60). The trio died on the spot after they were hit while attempting to cross the tracks. It is likely that they misinterpreted the speed of the train and, as a result, came under its impact.
Jaglal Manjhi (50), the fourth victim, is reported to be in critical condition. The impact resulted in severed limbs and left him severely injured, due to which he was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
A huge crowd gathered at the site, and the railway police were immediately informed, following which railway and local police officials arrived. Bodies were sent to Barh Sub-divisional Hospital for postmortem examination, and further investigations are underway.
The accident scene was described as horrific, as the extensive injuries have made it challenging to identify the deceased, leaving the locals shocked. The accident highlights the dangers of crossing tracks in high-speed train zones.
