An ambulance carrying a nine-year-old patient and her relatives from Kannur to Mangaluru collided with a car and overturned at Uppala near Manjeshwar on Tuesday, killing the girl's mother.
However, none of the injuries are reported to be serious.
The incident occurred near the Kooriyad service station, where one side of the elevated highway caved in onto the adjoining service road.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed deep concern over the tragedy and instructed top officials to carry out rescue operations promptly and assist those still trapped.
