Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Vijay is all set to resume his political campaign after taking a break following the September 27 Karur stampede. According to sources, the actor who is the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is expected to address the people of northern Kanchipuram district on Sunday at an indoor venue in the district.
Only those who have expressed their wish to meet and listen to the leader will be allowed to attend the meeting. It is learnt that Vijay’s address may not extend beyond 30 minutes.
The party is also looking to organise more events across the state from December as Tamil Nadu is gearing up for the assembly elections in 2026.
Meanwhile, the state government on Friday submitted its draft SOP to regulate public meetings in Tamil Nadu. Additional Advocate General J. Ravindran produced a copy of the final draft of the 46-page SOP before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice M. M. Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, when the petition filed by TVK and impleading petitions from the AIADMK and Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi came up for hearing.
The TVK state executive committee has submitted a formal petition to Salem Municipal Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Abhinapu seeking permission to hold a public meeting in the city on December 4.
The petition states that the party is seeking approval for one of three possible venues: Fort Maidan, Bose Maidan, or the open grounds at Sheelanayakkanpatti. The TVK has also requested adequate security arrangements and police assistance for the event, reported IANS.
Party insiders have indicated that Vijay plans to visit two districts each week as part of his renewed campaign schedule.
Vijay had suspended all public events following the tragic incident on September 27, when 41 people lost their lives in a stampede-like situation during his rally at Veluchamipuram near Karur.
