Thrissur: With just a couple of days to go for Thrissur Pooram, various civic bodies have come together to make the festival a grand success.
Even as the uncertainty about the fireworks remain, Mayor Ajita Rajan said a special control room will be working to support with facilities for the festival. Drinking water will be set up at various strategic places and Milma will assist the civic body in providing buttermilk at five places on the ground.
Road, power
The maintenance work on ten roads that lead to the Swaraj Round has been finished. The drains have been repaired. The broken slabs are being replaced. The emergency repair work has been done on electric lines.
Steps have also been taken to provide extra power if needed. Extra feeder facility has been organized for this. Repair work on head lights at Swaraj Round is in progress. Electricity officials will be on special duty near main transformers on Pooram day.
Medical aid, police
As many as six ambulances and medical teams will be ready for Pooram day.
A total of 3,500 policemen will be deployed for Pooram security. Chembottil Lane will be kept reserved for ambulances and other emergency services as a precaution. The corporation was asked to shut down wayside portable eateries as a measure to ensure food security.
Lawns for elephants
In a bid to reduce the heat, the authorities used to place wet sacks for the elephants to stand on during the Kudamattom ritual. This year, the Cochin Devaswom Board has, under the green temple project laid out lawns for the elephants to stand on.
