Thrissur: Annamada Parameswara Marar, who was the leader of the Panchavadyam recital at Thrissur Pooram and noted Thimila artiste, passed away at a private hospital in Kochi where he was undergoing treatment. He was the chief of the Panchavadyam conducted during Madathil Varavu ceremony of the Pooram for a long time.
Noted for the reforms he introduced in Panchavadyam, Parameswara Marar made several improvisations while working as a teacher at Kalamandalam all of which received wide appreciation. He also revamped the syllabus for Thimila studies. Parameswara Marar was part of the Thiruvambady team for around 45 years and led the Madathil Varavu for over a decade.
Learning the art from Annamanada Parameswara Marar, Pallavur Maniyan Marar and Pallavur Kunjukkuttan Marar, Parameswara Marar later worked along with stalwarts like Pallavur brothers and Chottanikkara Narayana Marar. He toured several foreign countries to perform Panchavadyam.
It was in 2003 that Parameswara Marar was made the chief of the Panchavadyam performed during Madathil Varavu. This was following the death of Pallavur Kunjukkuttan Marar. Earlier called Kalamandalam Parameswaran, he subsequently earned the name Annamanada Parameswara Marar.
A student and later a teacher at Kalamandalam, Parameswara Marar held the third position when Maniyan Marar led the Madathil Varavu and the second spot during Kunjukkuttan Marar’s leadership.
