Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police have assigned a woman officer to every panchayat in the state to address complaints more quickly and to ensure the safety of women and children. The officers will be available at the panchayat headquarters between 10:30 am and 1 pm on Tuesdays and she will exclusively look into the complaints of women and children.
The beat officers will work in tandem with the panchayat authorities. Director general of police Lokanath Behera has also directed the officers to solve problems at the spot as much as possible. The officers should get in touch with the local sub inspector if the complaint warrants a criminal case.
If the complaints are not related to any crime, the beat officers should inform the complainants about the measure to be taken and pass on any relevant information about the offices that could help the aggrieved women and children. However, the police will not get involved in property disputes and financial transactions.
The women’s safety program will also focus on women’s self-defense and awareness campaigns on alcohol and drug addiction.
