Cherppu: A patient admitted to a private hospital at Cherppu has a strange but loyal bystander - a squirrel named Tutu.
The squirrel has been keeping Soumya company in the hospital room for several days even as her husband Anilkumar is busy finishing his earlier commitments related to the interior design work. Anilkumar can go to work and his little son Niranjan can go to school at peace, knowing that the family pet is always around.
Of course, Tutu cannot go around the hospital paying the bills and buying the prescribed medicines but the rodent’s presence is comforting for Soumya.
Tutu has become a darling of the doctors and the nurses but he can be stricter than the strictest doctor sometimes. He does not like it when Soumya gets too many visitors. He would make known his displeasure by chirping through their conversation.
If the visitor fails to take the cue, the squirrel would become cross with Soumya. He would hide his face in his bushy tail.
Soumya would have a hard time cajoling her pet back to his elements. She might have to offer him a little bribe in the form of a laddu or any other savory.
Tutu has been with Soumya’s family ever since the rodent was spotted in the courtyard eight months ago. He had never been caged. He had refused to leave whenever the family let them on to a tree along with fellow squirrels.
In fact, Tutu can’t part with Soumya for an instant, jumping into her handbag whenever she goes out.
Unlike the other squirrels, Tutu does not have a liking for fruits or nuts. He prefers to be pampered with payasam, rice or some sweet snacks. Tutu is not a pet. He is part of family.
