New Year tragedy: Palakkad woman dies after ambulance gets stuck in traffic

After getting stuck at Vadakkencherry Royal junction, the ambulance reached the private medical college hospital late by more than one and a half hours.

Walayar: On New Year’s Day, a Kerala woman lost her life when the ambulance that was carrying her got stuck in a traffic jam near Vadakkencherry on the National Highway.

Indira, 50, wife of Velanthavalam Kinarpallath Mani, died allegedly due to delay in receiving treatment. After getting stuck at Vadakkencherry Royal junction, the ambulance reached the private medical college hospital late by more than one and a half hours.

The death was due hemorrhagic stroke resulting from the rupture of blood vessel. The doctors told the relatives that she could have been saved if she had reached the hospital at least half an hour early.

Indira who was engaged in household chores collapsed after 1pm. Though she was rushed to a private hospital nearby she had to be taken to Thrissur for advanced treatment.

The ambulance from the district hospital reached Vadakkencherry by 5 pm but it got stuck in traffic at the junction. If finally reached the hospital in Thrissur by 7pm. Though Indira was admitted to the emergency department, she died within a few minutes.

After post-mortem, her funeral was held on Wednesday.
