Thiruvananthapuram: Almost a week after a woman tourist was reported missing from the Kerala capital, the police have not been able to trace the Latvian national.
However, the recovery of a body from Colachel in Kanyakumari on Wednesday triggered suspicion that the deceased could be 33-year-old Liga Skromane. However, her relatives have confirmed that it was not the missing woman.
The body, which was at least a week old, was found while the probe into the missing case was progressing. Cops took Liga's relatives to Colachel but they said it was not hers.
Minister's assurance
Kerala tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran has said all efforts would be made to trace the Latvian national.
The minister gave the assurance after talks with Liga's friends and relatives who had come to see him.
Tourism officials have initiated efforts in this regard as per the minister's direction.
The Department of Tourism will also seek help from various organisations in the tourism industry to find the missing woman.
Liga, who had gone missing a week ago, had come to Dharma Arurveda Healing Centre at Ayirooppara in Pothencode along with her husband Andrew and sister Ilzie on February 3.
The police were informed that Liga, who was suffering from depression, had reached Kovalam in an autorickshaw from the centre. She had not taken any money or her mobile phone when she left the centre. Liga's husband had filed a complaint with the Pothencode police.
