The television channel has to ensure that the children are provided food at the venue, the guidelines added.
The children should not skip classes for more than 10 days, the circular issued by the government stated. They should be able to learn during intervals and should have a guardian with them. Consent should be obtained from parents for the shoot.
Stipulations of the labour law about children should be strictly followed when children or child artists are engaged by TV channels. Of the remuneration, 20% should be deposited in the child's name. The district collectors and district labour officers are bound to ensure that the norms are followed.
An important proposal is that judges at the shows should not pass comments that would demoralise students who lose out in talent or competitive contexts.
The guidelines were issued after the Child Rights Commission received complaints about undesirable issues that children face during such shows.
