Kottakamboor: SFI leader Abhimanyu, who was slain on the campus of Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, early this month had always dreamt of building a secure home for his poor parents at their native village in Idukki district.
CPM, the parent party of his student union, is now realising his dream with a brand new house.
The new house will come up 14 km away from his current residence at Vattavada. Its foundation was laid by CPM general secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Monday.
The house will have three bedrooms, a drawing room and a kitchen in 1,200 sqft. It will be finished at a cost of Rs 20-25 lakh within three months.
Speaking at the event, Kodiyeri alleged that SDPI is an "IS model terror group". "CPM will avenge SDPI for each drop of blood shed by Abhimanyu but not in terms of violence or bloodshed," he said. RSS and SDPI are just two sides of the same coin. Both of them deploy terror to suppress enemies, he added.
SDPI and related oufits are suspected of carrying out Abhimanyu's murder.
Kodiyeri also condemned the threats faced by novelist S Hareesh from Sangh Pariwar. "We all know that Hareesh withdrew his novel in fear of Sangh Parivar attacks. (Poet) Prabha Varma also faces same kind of threats. We should join hands to defend their attempts to suppress dissenting voices using terror," he said.
State minister for electricity MM Mani also participated in the ceremony. Abhimanyu's father, mother and elder brother also attended.
The CPM state committee had organised a crowd-funding to garner funds for house construction. The single-storeyed house is being built on a newly purchased 10-cent plot alongside Vattavada-Kottakamboor road.
CPM district committees of Idukki and Ernakulam had jointly carried out an emergency fund-mobilising drive for purchasing the property and constructing the house.
A library in honour of the student leader is also on the anvil at Vattavada. The library, to be named as 'Abhimanyu Maharaja’s Library', will function on a 2,000 sq.ft. space on the third floor of Vattavada panchayat office. Donation of over two lakh books has been assured by several people.
