Kochi: Fuel stations are experiencing heavy rush amid a false campaign that petrol is in short supply across Kerala.

The association warned that such mad rush forces restricted fuel supply to vehicles engaged in flood rescue operations. The fuel scarcity has affected public transport too.

Petrol stock was exhausted in Adoor, Pathanamthitta, due to the panic rush. All petrol pumps have shuttered.

Several fuel stations in Kottayam are also running short of petrol. On Thursday evening, long lines of vehicles could be seen before fuel stations on the Thengana-Puthupally road. The scene was similar in nearby areas close to Kottayam town.

People could be seen taking away petrol in plastic cans. Several pumps have been put under police protection.

Kerala has been ravaged by unprecedented floods following torrential rains that also triggered landslides, claiming more than 100 lives since August 8.
