New overbridge at Nagampadam opened to single-lane traffic

Kottayam: The new railway overbridge at Nagampadam has been opened to single-lane traffic from Kottayam to Ettumanur.

Now, vehicles coming to Kottayam town are taking the old bridge, while those heading out utilise the new overbridge. This has more or less eased the severe traffic block in Nagampadam area.

Though the work on the parallel stretch is over, tarring is yet to be completed. At present, crushed rock has been evenly laid along the stretch, and vehicles can make a bumpy ride across the bridge.

The construction of the Nagampadam railway overbridge started in May, 2015. The cost of the project is Rs 30 crore.

Efforts have also been launched to complete the work on the overbridge at the Goods Shed Road near the railway station also so that vehicles could be allowed along it at the earliest.
