Kollam: A previous probe had recommended vigilance investigation against DySP B Harikumar, the accused in the Neyyatinkara murder case, after it was proved that he had jailed a man after framing him for theft.
Sunil, a resident of Paarippalli, revealed that the officer had once falsely accused him of stealing wood and put him behind the bars. The case happened when Harikumar was the SI of Kadakkal.
“Life turned disastrous after the case," Sunil said. He also had to give Rs 25,000 as bribe so that more cases are not charged against him. His wife had to sell her wedding chain to make money to pay the officer.
Sunil said he had given a complaint to the then home minister Ramesh Chennithala soon after he was released from prison. Later his innocence was proved after an investigation by DySP J Kishore Kumar. Kumar submitted a report to the Kollam Rural SP stating that Sunil was falsely accused by Harikumar. The report recommended a vigilance investigation against Harikumar.
Unfortunately, the report has not been brought to the light yet.
Sunil also faced death threats for filing the complaint. Now that the officer has been accused in a sensational case Sunil got the courage to speak up. He also claimed that not even the charge sheet for the false theft case was submitted.
Earlier, this week a man was fatally knocked down by a rushing car after DySP Harikumar pushed him onto the street after a spat over parking. The police stated he remains at large, three days after the crime.
