Chhattisgarh/Kollam: A police team from Chhattisgarh conducted raids in Kerala's Kollam district on Friday in connection with a multi-crore Public Distribution System (PDS) scam in the central Indian state.

Raids were held at the Chhattisgarh DGP's former confidential assistant Rekha Nair's house at Puthoor in Kollam. Senior police officers are also said to be involved in the fraud to the tune of Rs 300 crore.

The scam that created an uproar in Chhattisgarh pertained to the supply of poor-quality rice under the PDS, and large amounts of money were embezzled.

The accused had allegedly made money by distributing low-quality rice and split the profits. Rekha Nair too had allegedly used this money to buy properties and assets in various parts of the state and country. She had invested lakhs of rupees at a private bank in Kollam, the Chhattisgarh Economic Offences Investigation wing had found.

The police team from Chhattisgarh was in Kollam along with Rekha Nair to collect documents related to these. It is learned that the probe team has found more evidence of corruption during these searches. Though Kerala Police are assisting in the raids, the Chhattisgarh cops have apparently not divulged more details to the state's force.
