According to a survey conducted by Traffic Management and Road Safety Enforcement (TRL), at least one life is lost on each km every year.

As per the figures, 1,555 accidents took place along the 80-km stretch from Adoor to Kazhakkoottam during this period. As many as 1,213 people suffered injuries in these mishaps and 248 of them died. Around 85 % of these deaths occurred in the areas under the Kottarakkara, Chadayamangalam, Venjarammoodu, Kilimanoor and Pothencode police stations.

Incidentally, the highest number of deaths occurred on Sundays.
