Kottayam: A statement of a top cop who investigated the 2018 Kevin murder case suggests that the crime was planned and not accidental. DySP Girish P Sarathy has said in court that that first accused Sanu Chacko had sent messages to his father, assuring him that he would commit the crime.

"Will kill. I will do it. He is finished..." these were the WhatsApp messages that Sanu sent to his father Chacko John, the day before Kevin was kidnapped, the senior cop said.

"The police checked Sanu's communication with a certain 'Papa Kuwait', which turned out to be the number of Chacko, also an accused in the case.

The incriminating messages were then found.

In the WhatsApp message to second witness Lijo Ottakkal too, Sanu had said Kevin would be murdered. Lijo had also sent a message to Sanu that 'Kevin's profile checked'," the cop said.

The police also found that Sanu replied to him, "He is finished. Don't worry.

The prosecution has presented the WhatsApp messages that clearly indicate that the accused had plotted to kill Kevin. Cyber and forensic experts have confirmed that these messages were sent from the phones of Sanu and Lijo. These reports have also been submitted to the district principal sessions court on Friday.

Seventh accused Shifin Sajad retrieved Kevin's dhoti from the banks of Chaliyekara River, Girish P Sarathy said in his statement.

The police also found blood stains, hair strands, and fingerprints from the car used by the accused. While the culprits were assaulting Anish, ninth accused Titto Jerome was also accidentally injured and his nose started bleeding.

The DNA results proved that Titto Jerome’s blood was found in the car, the prosecution said.

Sarathy would depose before the court on Monday as well.
