Malayalam novelist George Onakkoor bags Akademi award

George Onakoor's autobiography 'Hrudayaragangal' secured him the Akademi award.

George Onakkoor has won the Sahitya Akademi Award in Malayalam for his autobiography 'Hrudayaragangal'.

The Akademi on Thursday announced its annual awards in 20 languages. Awards in Gujarati, Maithili, Manipuri and Urdu languages will be announced later, the Akademi informed in a press release.

The winners will receive an engraved copper-plaque and an amount of Rs 1 lakh each.

The Akademi's Bal Sahitya Puraskar was also declared on the occasion. In Malayalam, Raghunath Paleri's novel 'Avar Moovarum Oru Mahavillum' (Three of them and a rainbow) was adjudged the winner. The Akademi has chosen 21 other writers in the Bal Sahitya category.

Mobin Mohan's novel 'Jacaranda' was chosen for the Yuva Puraskar in Malayalam. The winners of Bal Sahitya and Yuva awards will receive an engraved copper-plaque and Rs 50,000 each.
