Kochi: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has criticised the state government for imposing curbs on religious institutions in the name of COVID-19.
In a press release issued Friday, KCBC has said the state government urging religious institutions to perform ceremonies and rituals online was 'illogical'.
"The decision to impose strict curbs on places on worship that have been following the COVID protocol properly while giving relaxations to various other sectors must be reexamined," the KCBC noted in its release.
The additional curbs that were imposed throughout the state on the past two Sundays have also been criticised in the press note.
KCBC states that restricting the free movement of the public on Sundays has affected the religious practice of Christians.
"Hence KCBC president Cardinal Mar George Alencherry has asked the government to introduce restrictions only after considering the Christian communities' right to practice," the release states.
