Thrissur: A Fast Track Court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping and impregnating his paramour's minor daughter. The accused, Ramesh (37), of Kammulimukku in Varavoor, has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs1 lakh.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Bindu Sudhakaran. It was also the court's first judgement since being set up.
The case was registered in 2014 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in connection with the sexual abuse of a few children living in an orphanage. Ramesh was the main accused and the children's mother was the second accused. Following an investigation by police inspectors Vipin Das and M K Suresh Kumar, a chargesheet was filed before the court. Adv K P Ajay Kumar appeared for the prosecution.
Ramesh's lover has been let off. In its verdict, the court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide support to the survivor in order to ensure her future.
