Chelakkara Election Results 2024: Thumping victory for UR Pradeep; LDF begins celebrations

Chelakkara: LDF activists began celebrating as it became clear that their candidate UR Pradeep has secured a thumping win in the bypoll. 

He polled 64,827 and defeated his nearest rival, UDF's Rama Haridas, with 12,021 votes. Ramya, who lost two elections in a row in one calendar year, secured 52,626 votes. NDA's K Balakrishnan got 33,609 votes.
Pradeep has been in the lead since the beginning of counting votes against his nearest rivals.

Though there were six candidates in the fray in Chelakkara, the main contest was between Pradeep and Haridas.

NK Sudheer, the nominee of the Democratic Movement of Kerala (DMK), a political outfit recently floated by Nilambur MLA P V Anvar, who had quit the LDF, could garner around 3,000 votes only.

Pradeep told reporters here that Chelakkara has always supported the LDF and that the people of the segment didn't fall for false promises from political rivals.

Voter turnout in Chelakkara was recorded at 72.51%, a noticeable drop from 77.40% in 2021. The byelection became necessary after K Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Alathur seat.
