In Thiruvananthapuram by-elections, the LDF won two seats from the Congress while retaining one. The Congress held onto two seats, though one majority decreased. Desertions impacted the UDF.
Kochi: The United Democratic Front (UDF) won two of the four local body wards that went to bypolls in Ernakulam district, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Twenty20 won one seat each. UDF candidates Jose Kaniyathodath and A K Ajith Kumar won from Madaplatthuruthu East ward of Vadakkekara
Bihar by-election results show a mixed picture; Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor leading in Bankipur, while Congress leads in Datia and BJP retains Manjalpur.
Of the 12 wards that voted on November 30, nine were previously held by the BJP and the remaining by the AAP.
While the deaths of the incumbent MLAs necessitated the bypolls in one seat each in Gujarat, West Bengal and Punjab, the resignation of two legislators led to the polling in Kerala and another seat in Gujarat.
The district administration has requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to restrict the code of conduct to the constituency rather than enforcing it across the district. The Collector expressed optimism that the Commission would consider their plea.
The number of voters per booth will be limited to 1,200.
Candidates can submit nominations until February 6, with scrutiny scheduled for February 7.
The ceremony is scheduled for 12 noon at the R Sankaranarayanan Thampi Members’ Lounge in the Assembly complex.
KP Madhu resigned from the party on Tuesday, stating that he had lost all hope for its future.
